Home decor trends for 2010 can be just those small touches you put into your home if you don’t want to go with the entire trend. The benefit is that you never have to be chasing a trend and can still appear to be in the know. Check out these new trends in decorating to see what you can implement easily.
1.) Being flashy is still out in 2010. Now that cheap credit has come and gone, finding items to decorate or repurpose from a thrift store or yard sale is now very cool. If you can find affordable items that need just a bit of TLC, now you can be part of the shabby chic trend that has evolved. It no longer needs to look like the old shabby chic style, but more like you have collected items passed on to you from your grandmother. Vintage is in!
2.) Its easy being green. Green products and living green are the new in thing. With green products and green activities on the fore fronts of every one’s mind, you can save money, help the environment and feel good about doing it. With the proliferation of green items in the market place and by recycling old items, doing something good for the planet has never been so easy!
3.) If luxury is still to be had by some of you, it will be had at home. Many homeowners are looking for fix-ups that are luxurious without breaking the bank. Now is the time to invest in that fancy shower head or splurge on the whirlpool tub. You can have your own spa retreat in your home. While you’re at it, glass tiles and light colors in the bathroom are the next big thing!
4.) Softer and neutral colors comfort us in 2010. We have made it through a rough patch and now we need some comforting. That’s where the color trend is coming in. Think pastels, but not like those from the 80s. Grays mixed with oranges, greens and violets is where it’s at.
5.) So soft and comfy. That will be the trend in fabrics. If it’s chenille or velvet, you’re likely to see it in a big way. Remember, we want to be comforted and these softer fabrics are the best west for us to feel cozy and comfortable.

Interior Design 2010
Grommet curtains are gaining in popularity because of their unique design. Instead of simply hanging from a curtain rod like normal styles, grommet-style curtains have holes at the top to put the curtain through each one. This gives it a wavy look that you would not be able to get otherwise, and it is extremely stylish.
Grommet curtains were once very expensive because of how unique they were, but today they are much more affordable. While still not as cheap as your average curtains, they are now available well within just about anyone’s budget. These curtains are one of the most contemporary styles you can find, and they come in a wide variety of exciting and colorful designs that can go with almost any decor.
When choosing between designs and colors, look around the room or rooms you are planning to put the curtains up in and see what colors need to be brought out or are predominant in the room. Find a design or color that will bring out lesser-used accents in a room to really make them pop, or go with colors that are already well-established to have the curtains simply blend in.
Besides being attractive, grommet curtains also help insulate the room they are placed in because there is no space between the curtain rod and the curtains. The window that the grommet is over will be completely covered up, leaving little to no room for cold or hot air to get into your home when you don’t want it do.
When shopping for curtains that are grommet-styled, also be sure that you have a curtain rod at home that can fit the holes in the curtain easily. Ideally you will measure the rod you intend to use, then shop for the curtains. However, sometimes that is not possible. If you purchase the curtains and they do not fit any rod in your home, you are going to have to purchase a new rod. In many cases this is the better option anyway, because you can purchase one that matches the curtains and will fit into the holes well enough that the grommet weaved-look stays in place.
All in all, a grommet-style curtain is a new and fresh way to brighten up any home. Because of their unique look they can fit into any contemporary home decor, and because of the wide variety of designs they are offered in they can also fit into more conservatively decorated homes or rooms as well. While they are relatively new for home use, they are very stylish. Grommet curtains are a sound addition to your home, no matter what room you want to put them in, or in front of a sliding glass door or windows.
While many people do not have these types of curtains in their homes yet, they have seem them at one point or another. If you are considering getting gromment curtains in your home, visit our site and learn more about the styles available.

Nautical themes are very popular right now, especially for living room or bedroom décor. When you’re planning to use a nautical theme, the first thing you should do is paint the walls blue, like the water. Depending on your tastes you can use anything from very pale blue to bright or dark blue; any shade of blue will work with a nautical theme. When decorating your nautical themed living room or bedroom, consider scenes you may encounter when walking along a boardwalk or at a marina, and use those as your inspiration.
Nautical décor should include elements that you would find on a boat. Natural ropes, netting, accents in bright red and white, and a porthole motif can all be easy ways to tie everything together. You can also add a few flags tied to the tallest piece of furniture in the room, or use wooden flags that can be hung around the top of the walls all the way around your room. If you have wood paneling, don’t cover it up; wood paneling on interior walls can remind you of the interior cabin on a ship or inside a beach house.
For the walls and windows, canvas is a traditional material that is very popular in nautical décor. It can be used for curtains, dust ruffles for the bed, and other details. Canvas curtains hung with the use of large eyelets are a classic piece of nautical décor. You can even recycle an old sail, if you have access to one. The canvas can also be used to cover cushions or throw pillows.
Use natural wood furniture or paint your furniture white or cream, possibly with a distressed look, to make it fit in with your nautical décor. The paint should not be shiny or new-looking; it should look as if the furniture has had years of use on the beach or out to sea. If you’re choosing a whole new set of furniture to go with the nautical look, go for those that look like they belong in a beach cabin, including Adirondack chairs and wooden furniture. If you want to get creative with the furniture, you can even use a hammock for a chair or bed to represent a fishing net. Boat shaped beds are also a possibility. If you choose to stay with a regular bed, use blue and white bedding with red accents. These are the traditional “nautical” colors.
As for as decorations are concerned, paddles and oars are an appropriate touch for any nautical-themed room. Pictures of sailing boats or other nautical or beach themes can be a great way to provide a centerpiece in the room. Model sailboats, lighthouses, anchors, ship wheels, life rings, and vintage glass fishing floats can bring a nautical style to the walls, bookshelves, and tables in the room.
When done right, a nautical themed room is unique and inviting. It should instantly remind you of the seaside. If you want your room to be more relaxing than exciting, choose a color scheme consisting of white, khaki, and any shade of blue. Adding a pop of red or yellow can add excitement to the room.
